Karmalades Household Cleaner with a Conscience
- (in Hinduism and Buddhism) The sum of a person's actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in ...
- Destiny or fate, following as effect from cause
At Karmalades we believe that every action spurs a reaction. We also think cleaning should be an experience.
One of the key principles that Karmalades is based on is karma or, simply put, what goes around comes around. Everything we do eventually affects our precious earth. With that in mind, Karmalades products are formulated with naturally derived ingredients and packaged in sustainable materials like glass and tin.
Why Glass and tin? These materials not only look and feel luxurious, but they can also be indefinitely recycled. When formulating this line, it was very important that anyone be able to pick up any one of our bottles, read the ingredients, and be able to readily identify all the ingredients (without consulting the internet). I take old school ingredients like baking soda and vinegar and whip them into fun, natural ... and even a little luxurious dare we say ... household cleaning products.
Karmalades is lovingly formulated, distinctly packaged, and it really works! The concoctions are not only effective but will surely bring a smile to your face every time you use them.
Noun: Eco-Luxury Cleaning
At Karmalades we think that being green can and should = luxury.
When this line of products was started, the intention was not to turn it into a business. The owner, Cynthia Brevil, wanted to do something for herself … all she wanted was a cleaning product that was eco-friendly and made her feel luxurious when she used it.
You may be thinking luxury and cleaning? Yes, why not! Each of life’s moments should be memorable and, lets face it, we mostly try to forget, ignore, or avoid our time cleaning. At some point, all of us have to clean after all…why shouldn't it be an experience that conjures luxury?
When you clean with Karmalades is transforms the mundane task of cleaning into an experience you'll actually want to do again…and soon.
Who is the Karma Lady…aka Cynthia Founder of Karmalades?
(The Karma Lady, a name loving bestowed on to her by several of her farmers market regulars)
Physical therapist by day, eco luxury cleaning maven by evenings / weekends.
Cynthia is a physical therapist, health conscious crafter, painter, tiler, cook, foodie … and a true lover of all things eco-friendly and luxurious.
Now how did a Physical Therapist get into the eco-luxury cleaning game? Good Question!
As a child, I was raised with a consciousness that simple and natural is always the best. A value instilled by my mother who taught me and my sisters to sing about broccoli and cauliflower instead of the traditional nursery rhymes …. I know!
The Karmalades seed was further planted about 5 - 6 years ago at the D.C. Green Festival. I attended as a volunteer and was lucky enough to sit in on a seminar about lowering our body’s exposure to toxins. One of the key things the speaker talked about were the toxins in our home ... mainly cleaning products. She went on to educate the audience about a few simple household-cleaning recipes that could be made at home to take the place of all the toxic stuff that is readily purchased at the grocery store. I was already using natural cleaners from the local health food stores, but being the eternal crafter that I am … I couldn't stop myself from thinking about experimenting with my own recipes. I went home to try it. I researched and formulated a beautifully effective soft scrub cleaner ... now known as Scrubbing Souffle. I used this creamy scrub on everything and it became my hostess gift of choice. My gift recipients, mostly family and friends, loved it … and most said it works like nothing else they have used in the past. After a year of hearing the most gracious compliments, a light bulb went on and I decided that it would be a great idea turn my love for crafting natural cleaning products into a business. For me, there is nothing better than helping the karma of the planet by encouraging people to trade in their traditional toxic cleaners for a more sustainable choice ... Karmalades.
Sustainability / Social Responsibility
I’m going to take you on a ride along my stream of consciousness. When I think about sustainability I think two things … karma and circle. Believe it or not, the two go hand in hand. Karma, in essence, means what goes around comes around, whatever energy you put into the universe will somehow come back to you … kind of like a circle … are you following? Now Circle … I look at the environment like a big happy circle. Now we all know what a circle looks like, we don't know where it starts or ends, but if we take our finger and trace it along a circle we eventually end up where we started. Ok, we are almost there I promise :) So basically when building this brand I was thinking karma and circle the whole time. Formulate and package the products in such a way that when my customers use Karmalades they are doing the least harm to the environment, aka the Circle. This helps to ensure our future generation will enjoy all the beauty the environment provides … clean water, snow, the four seasons … the basics.
